Hi Dave,
I think you are right about the ACME connection, it is my understanding that the Roulette and possibly the Dice games was developed by Doc Kaufman, Bob Harpling and Jack Lavignia, Jack was the Bally distributor in 1961 in Southern Nevada, Bob was the Field serviceman for Bally and Doc was Bally's "Man on the ground" in Nevada, they all claim that the funding came from Chicago, but would not mention any names, it turned out that it was Billy O'Donnell, there were 11 ACME Rouletes sent to Las Vegas for testing, but the percentages were too high, and the rest of those games were put into a Chicago warehouse, never to be seen again.
I am sure the Dice game was developed from the same team with the exception of Jack Lavignia who sold his interest to Mickey Wichinsky, who in turn gave Billy O'Donnell the idea to incorporate the hopper into a slot machine, the outcome was the Commando model, Mickey put 8 of these into the Sands Casino, after the first week, they fell to pieces, Bob Harpling and Doc Kaufman redisgned this model , they changed the 110 volt circuits into 50 volt circuits and redesigned the cabinet and handle assembly, the outcome of that was the model 742 also known as the Money Honey, and slot machine history was made once again.
Find attached pictures of the Dice model that Acme Novelty Co, made, you may want to compare the dice system on your machine to their one, or indeed some of the other components.
You had a Great find.
