Cast iron Mills / Royal Trader trade stimulator

Postby Midcoast Vintage » Sun Apr 09, 2017 6:03 pm

Got up at 4:30 this morning to drive to auction to get this machine.
Not sure if it is Mills or Royal.
Very nice 100% original machine.
Missing back door & cash box.
Working, but apparently a spring is off as reels spin, but stop instantly.
Otherwise, a great, straight, unscrewed with machine.
I went to $9500.
I did not get it.
It sold for $12,500.
It was definitely a beautiful machine.
Fanciest cast iron work i have ever seen!

Sorry you didn't get it.

Did someone in the audience get it or a phone / Internet bidder?

Machine was set to sell at 11 am.
At 10:50, 2 guys walked in.
At about 11:05 the bidding began.
The two guys walked to the cashier, paid in hundred dollar bills.
One of them picked up the machine, and they walked out.
That was it.

Wow! A very nice unmolested machine. Do you know who the high bidder was? If so, I will chat with you later.
I believe this example is Royal Novelty, and not Mills, as the marquee frame is slightly different, and the same
as on a Royal machine that I have. There are also some other small details in the case castings. Many Royal
machines had their name in the casting, and on this one, it may have been on the coin door, which is missing.
Sadly, several mfrs. have had their name, or logo, or serial number, on a door that many times is history.

35 years ago, Dick Bueschel told me there were only 12 known. I had two and now the one I still have does not have the Marquee and the payout paper in the middle states 25 cigars for a royal flush and 10 cigars for four of a kind.My back door covers the whole back, The Ace of spades on the reel strip says Royal Trader.
