My latest find

Postby Dave » Sat Sep 30, 2017 10:27 pm

Here is my latest find waiting for the shipper to come get it.

I have wanted one of these things since I was about 8 years old and saw one in an old ghost town (Virginia City Montana). I finally found one!

It finally arrived yesterday and I had a crew of my buddies help me get it in the basement.

The beast weighs in at close to 1,000 pounds.

Care to guess what it is?

Thanks. I see there is one for sale at Morphy's in October. Sounds like it might have issues though with the strings being disconnected.

When it comes to these machines I think the only way to buy them is to buy one that has gone through a 100 point full restoration.

Wonderful find! I have to ask (being a retired professional musician---trumpet, however) how does one keep the violin in tune? I imagine it would fluctuate slightly with changes in temperature, humidity, and general use. Nothing worse than an out of tune music machine! Robert

They have free standing weights on each string. I think they got a patent on this.

I think the idea is the free standing weights keep a consistent pressure on the strings even during temperature variation and this help keeps the violin in tune.
