1963 Mills Bell-O-Matic

Postby Greg14 » Wed May 30, 2018 6:28 am

I have a 1963 Mills Bell-O-Matic missing the complete base and coin tray assy. Also missing the light on top of the machine. The machine does work but has some chrome blistering at the base of the cover. Also missing key lock. Don't know if its possible to find the missing parts and is worth doing so. Any help is most appreciated. Thanks

No Problem.

This is the escalator version Compact model.

Similar non escalator model is called M series.

It's common to see these in various stand options.

e.g. without a standard coin pay out tray option.

Hello Greg!
These Mills Bell-O-Matic open front style slot machines when used in a casino environment would normally sit in a bank of slot machines which would have been on a long cabinet with a coin payout tray incorporated into the cabinet that would sit in front of the slot machine for the payout from the payout slides to be dispersed on a winning combination and as well would have had a door in the front of the cabinet towards the bottom of the cabinet to access the bucket below the slot machine to catch the overflow coins or the casinos "take" which would have usually been collected once a week usually on a Wednesday night graveyard shift to have the least interference with casino customers, this was called "doing the drop" in reference to collecting the coins that "dropped" out of the bottom of the slot machines!
You can either try to find a stand like the one pictured here below that is made for that style slot machine, which are not easy to find as no one I know of now is mass producing or you can build yourself a small base and/or use an existing cabinet and insert a tray into the area below and to the front of the slot machine for the payout coins!
These stainless steel trays are readily available from a restaurant supply house and come in different sizes and are used as serving trays in a buffet steam table and are relatively inexpensive and have a nice sound when the coins hit the tray after a payout!
They have a lip on them that will allow them to sit nicely in a cutout that can be made with a jigsaw in the appropriate cutout size!
Bona Fortuna!

GREG!
The light you are speaking of is called the "Candle", and those are readily available, sometimes on Ebay, probably two 1/4 inch bayonet bulbs would be used, one for the jackpot and one for the change light!
If the wiring is there and correct you should be in good shape and if not you will have to wire it up to the jackpot micro switch and the toggle for the change light!
Also you may have to find a transformer for the correct voltage!
The jackpot micro switch could be located on the payout slides or close by or by the top of the vertical payout finger for the jackpot, the twenty coin vertical finger!
Pictures of the mech removed from the cabinet showing the payout slide area from the front and the area of the top of the vertical payout fingers as well as these were wired in different ways at times!
Could be a little confusing but the wiring is pretty straight forward!
Bona Fortuna!

Thanks Monti,
Checked out ebay and found plenty to choose from.
I never had a slot machine before but Finding it to be a very interesting piece of equipment. What I wasn’t sure was worth fixing has become a fascination I enjoy. Thanks again for your expertise and support. Antique
