the spring on your kicker must be weak and the spring you added is helping it do it's job. Great you got it working.

YES! OldSlotman, I agree about getting it up and running and I would love to learn more about correcting the actual issue.

Do I have to dismantle the machine to see the actual shape of my kicker?

It is a bit of a job the get to the kicker. You have to remove the reel bundle and payout tube to make it easier. If it is working I would leave it as it is.
