I had worn stops on my 30's Mills mech. They were much more worn than yours, nearly all the way through but weren't causing the reels to bounce back.
I welded the wear groove up & filed them back to shape, & they're fine now.

Gas83519,

Interesting, maybe the worn blocks are not the cause of the bouncing. As you mentioned, the wear is not that bad but I have not found anything else to explain the bouncing.

Have you tried replacing the springs on the arms. If they are weak they will not hold the reel stop tight up against the star wheel. Only other solution is to slow the reels down.

oldslotman,

The springs argument is logical but the springs on all three reel stops are in good condition and have plenty of (and equal) tension.

I slowed the reels way down - to the point that they barely are spinning when the stop levers activate. Even at that low speed the #2 reel has some bounce - enough to bounce back a reel symbol.

I'm sure I will figure out the cause, but it is a bit baffling right now...

Reel one and two should have the same reel stop levers. Try switching them and see what happens.

oldslotman,

Great idea. I switched them and now reel #1 has the bounce and #2 does not.

The wear on the reel block does not seem that severe but it must be just enough to not create a smooth landing with the star wheel.

Send some pics of the reel stops arm areas and the feet.

mechanic,

See attached pics. There is no noticeable wear or damage to the feet area. You can hopefully see in the block area that the front of the block has worn down somewhat.

It looks like the problem is with that block

Can that block be turned 90 or 180 degrees? I tried some PB Blaster and it still won't budge.
