Pace bantam ?

Postby jsin » Fri Mar 17, 2017 2:35 pm

Hello,

Looking for some input on this Pace bantam. About an hour's drive from me. Seller states plays and pays correct. Seller states it was made in the 40's. (I think it's earlier than that , right.) no key for front lock. I suspect the cabinet is not the original. ( Should that be a deal breaker ? ) Seller looking to get $ 500. For it . Waiting to see if I can get some photos of mechanism but in the meantime wanted some feedback from fourm Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks .

1. The Story of the Pace Bantam Slot Machine-3.jpg
Hi,
You are corect about the date and the wooden sides of the cabinet, Ed Pace introduced the Pace Banton in 1928 after purchasing the Skelly company in 1927, this model is 30 pounds lighter than a normal machine, it is also smaller than the standard slot machine, one feature is that it as a cloth cash bag mounted in the front of the machine through a front opening door, the machine that you show does not have the correct wooden sides as the original as a routed grove around the cabinet, also many of the Bantom Jak Pot model came with fortune reel strips. also it was rare to have 25c machines in 1928 (More Collectable) but if this machine is complete inside it is a good buy at $500.00

I like that it is a 25 c but is the front unlocked? You need to be able to take the front door off in order to remove the rear door and mechanism if Im correct. Ive been jumping around from slot to slot here and forget sometimes. Sides can be found eventually or made and I would jump at it for the price or use the negatives as a bargaining tool.

The case is definitely home made. Both sides & base. Many slot cases have been reproduced, but I don't recall the "Bantam" case
being done. Hope I am wrong, because this is a great buy at $500. Especially being a 25 center. Very few produced. I would jump
on it in a heartbeat. Keep us informed on any further information. Good luck.

Correct me if I am wrong...But it looks like a Jennings? handle or at least an incorrect handle. Original locks for these are difficult to find so a locksmith might have to be consulted.

A few photos of internal mechanism out of case . As rtmccurdy stated wrong handle , I didn't notice that either. I also think it may be missing some sort of handle pump as well.

Its hard for me to clearly see the mechanism but not all had the pump. Mine does and I believe that the pump dampers the escalator (wheel) spin speed. I have found another 25c pace online and it doesnt have the pump either. You can compare.

Yes thank you, most definitely will have to do some online comparison. Just found these photos online showing a 25 cent Pace bantam with same style handle. Maybe it is the correct handle.

That is a Jennings handle on the subject machine, and on the last on-line photo in this thread.
The other machines shown by Freddy, (both real, and the ad). have the correct handle, as in
the pix I show here as well.
