Mills Cherry serial number

Postby slotorama » Tue Jul 04, 2017 8:20 pm

I am looking at a Mills Cherry, not the bursting cherry, the other one. It is a 2 cherry payout. I was wondering where the serial number should be. the guy who is selling it states it is on the wood in the back...is that where it should be for this type of machine?

A sticker should be on the left side when looking at the machine from the back. The matching number should be on the mech base in the front of the machine. You will need to pull out the mechanism to see it.

My 10c Black Cherry, which I believe is original,

has the (matching) serial numbers 'embossed' on the rear of the wooden base (hard to see!) . . .

. . . and on the tag that's affixed to the inside of the case (handle side) . . .

. . . hope this helps!

The serial numbers are not always on the wood base. It is an added identifying mark but without the matching sticker on the mechanism base anyone could put a random mechanism into the cabinet. Old operators did do swaps and I have seen non-matching serial numbers over the years.

Aha! I see the sticker labelled 'Bell Family Mechanism No.' . . .

Sadly, it is so soaked with grease that the serial number is virtually unreadable.
Do you know of a way to clean the label without erasing what's stamped on it?

Thanks for pointing this out!

Hi edge city, I use a half sheet of Bounty paper towel and fold it down so it is slightly larger than the Mill Novelty label, soak it very well with a heavy Dawn dish soap and warm water and lay it on the label overnight and you will be amazed that it lifts the grease out of the label exposing the serial number. You might put a little weight on it to soak it in.
Good luck!

Hi - commenting on an old post - I hope someone replies!
Regarding the last picture shown, of the serial number - where exactly is that serial number? It's such a close up that I'm not sure where to look.
My machine has a nice NOTCH in the back middle, where the serial number was. My stickers are gone but I can see the adhesive mark where one was.

Is there a number on the mech itself?
