A Rol-A-Top but not as we know it.

In the UK, two Rol-A-Tops sold at auction last month.

Bird of Paradise $550 / £420
Coin Front $400 / £320

Okay now that you have looked things become clearer or perhaps not. These are not modern re-pros as they are not digital and do not have the club handle.
Freddy Bailey wrote the definitive article about the Watling tooling passing to the bell fruit corporation in the UK. Freeddy said that they slightly revised the mechanism and I believe that they then put the re-worked mechanism into a newly designed cabinet.

My question, and perhaps Freddy might know the answer. Did the Bell Fruit corporation put there mechanisms into a UK version of the Rol-A-Top? The results from the UK auction appear to confirm that they are not US examples, but what exactly are they? They are both on UK pre-decimal coins.

You can see that on first glance it would be very confusing to a newbie collector in the U.K.

What's even more confusing, is the link that shows the RAT Coin & RAT Bird, listed under the same lot number.
Then the other link has the RAT Coin with an 'A' after the same lot number. Guess they do things different in the UK auctions?

Yes the auction house did it self no favours with mixing the lots up. Still they must have sorted it out on the day. The sales price achieved most likely reflected on what the slots were. I just have the feeling that both of these slots did not originate from the U.S.
