Help with identifying this Mills?

Postby Imyourcaptain » Tue Oct 10, 2017 12:38 pm

Can anyone identify this machine? Is it fully mechanical? Value? Really interested in possibly buying it but I cannot find any info on it.

Just getting into antique slots and thought this was very unique

Hi,
The machine in question is NOT a Jumbo Parade, but a Mills Square Bell, without seeing a better picture I would think it has been taken from its original cabinet and installed in another cabinet, in the published picture it shows what looks like a wooden coin entry, when in fact the original had a metal low top housing that held the escalator (See picture of the Mills Square Bell).
I am a big fan of console models especially the electronic models of the 1940's, today hey are very undervalued in my opinion, but many of the features on them are still popular in the games of today.

Freddie

I think you nailed it, I’m not sure if Mills didn’t make many of these but this is the first one I have ever seen. I thought it was all mechanical but I’m guessing the skill bonus is electrical.

I have Evens winter book horse machine. Lots of fun to play when it works. Lol. I can understand the frustration of having an EM machine but I too think the consoles are undervalued.

Now I need to decide if I want to buy this.

top info above from Freddie!
he is also correct that they are, indeed, undervalued.
Glass and electrics put people off?
You asked for value, I would say $600 -$1200.
Glass looks good so nearer the upper estimate.
is the skill feature working?
Yes, it is electric, but very simple affair that stops the clock just before the fifth click until the little ball switches the middle contact on the skill field.
Pace done a blatant copy of the mills Square bell that is far more numerous called paces reels.
The horse race model was the Saratoga
Mills eventually dropped the square bell for the Four bells in late 1939.

I could have sworn I seen that skill field before. Viola it’s Paces copy of the Mills square bell.

I haven’t talked to seller yet but he is asking $2000, I felt he was high. Not sure if he will be willing to come down.

Thank you guys for your help! I had a feeling this board could figure this one out!
