Mills High Top project, worth it?

Postby rilaw » Sat Feb 16, 2019 10:09 pm

Curious... Non-working Hi Top, missing bonnet and rear door, looks to have been sitting for a long time with no back on it... Wood sides and base need full restoration, mechs look to have surface rust....What's it worth as is?

Thanks

I guess it depends on what your time is worth.

If you had someone else restore it then it would probably cost more to restore than you could sell it for.

It sounds like a total loss to me and should be purchased as a parts machine.

Thank You...Have been wanting a High Top for some time, this would be a project I'd undertake myself. I'm comfortable with the Wood work restoration, and I'm sure I could figure out the mech from online sources. Then just replace the broken glass, obtain a bonnet, back door, and lock. If I can grab it, I will. This one is a "Jewel Bell"

Well, finally picked her up, and I'm happy with my new project. Should be a good learning experience. Managed to get the locked coin door off without hurting anything, had a few nickels from the 40's in there, including a silver one...kinda cool. I'm sure I'll be starting a few posts looking for insight and parts.
