Mills Serial Number List

Postby bkrsdoz » Fri Sep 09, 2016 10:18 am

Is there a list of Serial numbers for the Mills slots for reference?
I am trying to verify if my Brown Front is a 1938.
It is serial number 307516, and has the flat forged type handle.
I have attached a photo.
Thanks

Hi bkrsdoz:
First of all, welcome to our Forum. From what I see, you have a totally original "Bursting Cherry - Brown Front".
What ever you do, leave it as is, with just a minimum of cleaning & polishing. It will retain it's full value in this
condition, more so, than if you were to do any refinishing and paint touch-up, etc. Hopefully it is in good operating
order. You should enjoy it for years to come. As Dave has stated above, you can check out http://www.CoinOpRegistry.com
for a list of other machine serials & dates, like yours.
Good luck, Bill

Proper flat handles go on Mills Lions Head and War Eagle models both single and reserve style jackpots. Later models like the Castle front and Bursting Cherry took the sword type handles. Your may have been changed by some old operator way back when. Not a bad thing if you don't care about exactness.

Hi,
Your machine is all ORIGINAL, the flat handle models were the first to be introduced in the range, they later added the cast iron club handles when they introduced the same model with drill proof sides in 1941, Bill (Slot Dynasty) is correct, you have an all original Cherry Bell, Brown front. do not attempt to restore it in any way, find attached the original flyers for both models.

Thanks very much for your information and reply.
I was told by the person I purchased it from that it was 100% original, and complete.
He had told me it was an early one, and that the cast handles were released at a later date along with the drill proof plates.
I couldn't find a whole lot of information on it, and it's my first slot purchase.
Best Regards,

Did Frank Polk/Dick De Long machines

Postby Marcellous » Thu Jul 11, 2019 9:14 am

Am wondering when Frank Polk and later Dick De Long did their carvings, did they use new machines at the time or did they at times use older (antique) machines? It seems that all these carvings have 1940/1950 machines. My opinion is that Dick De Long's Indian carving is much nicer the Polk's. I especially like the long feathers used on De Long's.

It is my belief that Frank Polk always used original currently being used in the Casino's of Nevada slot machines!
Other carvers, of which there were a few, Dick Delong, Mannie Sanchez, Royal Bell, Etc. used some original slot machines as well as reproduction slot machines of the day of their carvings!
Here below are some photos of Dick Delong's creations, of which there were many and not all are shown, he also did some using the Mill's QT slot machine, these were of a smaller scale!
