Pump lubrication?

Can anybody suggest a good lubricant for my handle pump? It was dry when purchased, and seller recommended vaseline...I took it apart, and smeared some around the inside cylinder, and the plunger seemed to scrape it all off...I opened it a second time, and put vaseline around the plunger part, and it seems to work better, but is kind of sticky, and not smooth...any suggestions???
Thanks,

HI

Use some mineral oil inside the pump . First clean the inside then apply the oil.

Clean tube with rubbing alcohol and dry. Take the leather off the plunger and clean off all oil. When clean use saddle soap to keep the leather soft. Put 3-1 oil on the plunger shaft with a rag. Then a drop on all pivot rivots. Put back together and reinstall.
