Jennings Flyer

Postby madmelons » Sun Feb 12, 2017 7:39 am

Well I'm sure many on here will be aware of this

However, just like to make as many aware as possible so could get

As much info back as possible.

I have never really liked the so called Chinese front as always disliked

The area above the jackpot area as always looked to me as not really

Part of a design,an add-on or maybe tool change etc

Well the flyer seems to show a model of Chinese front and club special

Styling approaches and one model I haven't seen another image elsewhere?

Did this ever get manufactured? Standard model or customer special? Did it

Predate or come after the Chinese front?

Hopefully someone will come along with the right answer

I would be interested in sourcing one however difficult if ever made of course

Thanks in advance for any info supplied

The earliest I everr heard the term "Chinese Front", was by Pete Hansen". He called them that because he said the red plastics looked like Chinese writing.
Another term that I believe came from him was "Burstin' Cherry". This comes from a mis-print in one of Pete Hansen's ads in either Coin Slot, or Antique Trade when they left off the letter "g" in the ad, hence , Burstin" rather than Bursting Cherry. People are still using the incorrect "burstin' " in their ads.
I have never Seen it spelled "burstin' " in any original Mills Novelty literature.

Thx for info.

I have no idea of the official Jennings model name featured

In the flyer or the more common model with similar light up

panels, that's why I prefaced it with "so called " Chinese front.

Hopefully someone will chip in with the correct original name

for both these models. The lack of images on tne net leads to

An assumption that the flyer model is significantly rarer than

the other, however this hobby over the years has taught me to

expect the unexpected, so will wait and see I suppose,

Regarding this 'So-Called' Jennings Chinese Front, was a Moniker that stemmed from the collector trade, never from the factory.
I have never seen one piece of original advertisement with that terminology.
The true name for this model, is just what it says on the flier above. A "Club Chief" model. It has also been tagged as a "Standard
Chief" model as well. I have tons of photos of originals, and what I have noticed mostly, is that most 1c-5c-10c-$1 models, have
the "Club Chief" marquee plastic, and most 25c have the "Standard Chief" plastic. But with the collector market now-a-days, you
can put any machine name plastic you choose, in the marquee. So, who knows how many other names one might see.
Another thing to take into consideration, is that the fancy area above the jackpot, shown on the flier, is just an artists conception,
and has never been seen on this model. It looks like a similar design that was used on the "Club Special" - Sports Theme model, but
instead of the shaking hands, they put a small Indian head on the flier drawing. Another extra thing on the drawing, are the fancy
do-dads on either side of the coin entry. Plus, I have never seen blue plastic down the sides.
Most all original factory advertisements are artists renderings, and not photographs. Therefore, you will usually see slight detail
differences. You can view a lot of this in the thick brown Coin-op Advertising book, by Bach.

So the all red light up lower casting is/was a club chief [and or standard chief]

And as this flyer has artist impression of some improvements both inside and out

Does that mean Jennings never actually made machine in this so called improved

style, we'll certainly with regard to the outside improvements and just continued to

sell the all red version until discontinued.

As I said in my earlier post it always surprised me the area above the jackpot looks

Well just odd and fact that it's called chief it didn't have any chief emblem as all the

Standard Chief non light up versions had?

I'm not aware of the model year of introductions maybe that's a source of information

Thx for the info, much appreciated.

Another slot never going to find then

You are right. I forgot to mention checking the inside sticker. That will always have the machines True Name,
regardless of what someone may have changed on the outside over the years.
