my new Mills open front 50 cent slot.

Postby JHSS-1944 » Sun Mar 12, 2017 9:35 pm

I finally got into sync with the Seller. drove over ,looked it over, took it home.
cost me $200.00. the wooden stand is Not an original but, a very nicely done one by a past owner. will look that over later & convert some of it.....
Ser.# 3187 . date June 28,1965. lighting system still good for the 3 front lights, but everything else disconnected / cut. all in all ,a basic Mills mechanics under the hood.
originally orange but repainted red. might be a few things altered , not sure yet.
Was listed for 2 months & I was the only one who showed interest in it. he seemed very happy to get my $200.00, I'm guessing he had nothing into it / found it ?? (a little to happy).
works as it should.
Need to see what the "candle light" on top actually looked like. not sure I want one back on it.

Id say well done for a 50 cent slot. Whats the actual value? I would have paid that all day long!

Briank ; your right ! I've been Very lucky on these machines. so far ,only 3 were bought out of state & shipped here. rest were all local buys.
I will play with this one awhile ,then decide what to do next. might actually have a close to correct candle stick for the top. have to dig it out.
will rework the stand a bit to make it closer to how they actually were.
buy the 2 other light bulbs & starters for the front. "fix" the reject coin return tube.
maybe remove the red paint ??
not super desirable but ,very nice, hard to find & add to it ,50 cent play.
honestly thought it would be bigger in size ,not as big as a Bally of 1964, but closer to that. happy it's not. "guess that's why they called it a compact ???? " (Duh).

above the reels , it states " we love to pay jackpots" who's tag line is this ?
I know I've heard this before , just can't remember which casino (please be in Vegas , not Reno or L.T.).

. . . nice 'half dollar' find, Jeff! These cookies are getting scarce -- I've been looking for a (1967) 'M' Head quarter machine.

From Marshall Fey's '(Mills) Complete Service Manual':
"(1962 Compact) The modified escalator, only showing he last two coins played, was attached to
the same old HI-TOP mechanism making it possible to operate the entire mechanism out of the
case. A disadvantage was that the escalator had to be removed to take out the reel bundle."

My only observation is that the reel strips look like Bally reel strips. And there's a cherry on the third reel!

These slots were discussed in my thread 'Mills Compact' back in December. Contains a link to an earlier thread as well.
Member 'mechanic' seems to have a good bead on them.

Good luck!

Man , you are the only one looking !!!! cherries on the 3rd reel = YEP , 4 of them !!!!
will have to map this one out first ,then figure out what I want to do. I'm not sure this second which strips were used by them at this time frame. the 3 red 7's are thin stickers added. over top of what I don't know yet, think black outlined 7's (white on white). the star "gears" might be changed out , the discs for sure were replaced. seem to be extra holes in the first disc.

I haven't seen many of these on the internet to start with And none showing the insides.
found a few that sold in auctions for just over $1,000.00 ,which is better than I thought these ever went for. none seen in 50 cent at all.
need to hunt down the manual for it.
will keep an update ,if I find anything odd.
I will have to find you past postings you mentioned.

This Compact's been haunting eBay since before Christmas (originally listed at $1300). However, the auction does contain a few fotos of the mechanics. Looks like 'CALI' refers to California . . .

. . . it's near me, but I don't like the "lightning" reels nor the (ugly) integrated stand!

Well it is one of the correct stands.....
do this , make contact with him now , just to do it = dumb questions ,you already know the answers to. in 2 days it's no longer up, he'll deal with you or re list it lower price. make another stand / add to the lower section of this one (make it taller), rework the rest if you want to.

I do remember this one awhile back ,at the higher price.
I've got a dealer on e-bay doing their best to unload a slot on me now. But the shipping & "where do I put it ?"
I've gotten a few P.M.s on mine so far too.
