Small slot machine

Postby 1949 » Sun Oct 21, 2018 12:29 pm

I would like to ask about the small slot machines. My wife`s cousin`s which she is 89 and he is 94 and still very active. I would love to get them a Mills QT because they love to play games like that and we think it really helps them keep going.I was thinking a 1 cent because they are also very frugal. But it seems I can`t find one and the people on ebay are very proud of their`s or they are in bad shape. So I was wondering what are some of the other small slots with pay outs I can look for? I think the slide type like the vest pocket would be to hard for them to work for any amount of time. Thank you for yor time!

Consider a Pace Bantam or a Jennings Duchess, both have the look and feel of a "real" slot machine, only smaller.

Also, consider (now don't start laughing/scoffing) a Columbia Standard. If you can find one in good working order, they are less expensive, especially if you live close by and can fix it incase of a jam.
I've had a 10 cent Columbia in my office for about 20 years and it just won't quit working; I can remember only 2 or 3 coin jams in that time.

Also what difference does the denomination make? No matter how frugal they are, even if it's 25 cent play, If they own the machine they keep all the coins.

A Pace Bantam is to hard for an older person to pull the handle. Jennings in general has what I consider the hardest handles to pull even for me at 54 I hate them.. Later machines or Mills that you can put the long handle are are perfect. Mills QT's are super easy to pull so I think you are going in the right direction. The casinos were not dumb when they put long handles on all the machines at one point for the older crowds to enjoy. Rick B

Thanks guys for the info! The reason I said 1 cent and frugal is that they save change, like a lot of people, But it is a jar full of pennies. So I just thought that is what they would enjoy. But I guess that was just an ideal. Thanks again!

Too hard? Baloney.

My wife and I just did a test on all 4 machines mentioned;
we agreed: the 1c Bantam was slightly hardest to operate; so negligible a difference, it may have been the power of suggestion.
All three of the others ( 1 cent QT, 1 cent Duchess and 10 cent Columbia) were very easy.
The clearly easiest to play: Duchess!

The resistance obviously varies among machines, even of the same model, being a factor of springs used, lubrication etc.
We also tried a 5 cent QT which seemed a little hard; about the same as the Bantam.
The QT does have a range of motion advantage; basically, you just push down, no pulling.
We old people need the exercise anyway.

Have to agree with Rick B. I find the Jennings machines typically hardest to pull and most temperamental to tune. I have had two Duchess machines and both were simply bad to play - hard pull and felt like mechanically lots of friction. I have had good luck with Columbia machines also but ease of play and smoothness can't compare with QTs. Just my opinion. :)
