Mills Slot Handle Shock Absorber Question

Postby WoodrailFanatic » Fri Jan 07, 2022 9:05 am

Gentlemen,

I am working on a Mills slot (half top) that has the rubber bumper/shock absorber for the handle beat to hell on it.

I found a repro for the part on eBay. While I am waiting for it to arrive my question is how difficult is to get the old one out? Any suggestions on approaches or techniques to do this would be most appreciated. I realize it may easily push out of the bracket that holds it but I am guessing after setting in there for heavens knows how many years it will not go gently into the night.

Thanks!

You can pull it out with a screwdriver or drill it out - will take a little bit of time and probably be a messy job, but you'll be able to do it. They do harden up over time, so it will take some effort.

Sal,

Thanks very much for the reply and the advice.

Once I get the repro shock absorber I will prepare for a full assault on the old one!
