Do ALL Jennings Governors LIGHT UP?

Postby Dirty Slots » Mon Sep 26, 2022 5:40 pm

I was offered this for $1500. It works. It doesn't lookj like it lights up. Are some metal where the glass would be?

Is this worth good money if re-chromed? Can I put glass in there and light it up?

What's that switch in the bottom left corner in back?

Thanks !

No, they don't all light up. I had a Jennings Governor years ago, that I later sold, that didn't light up. It had metal where the plastic light up sections were on the casting. It was also an English machine that worked on the 6 pence (same size as a US Penny).

Between the expense of cutting out that bottom casting, new chrome, and all the parts to light that machine up, if you can even find the Bakelite panels, you are looking at about $2,500 + the cost of the machine. Just buy a Jennings that is already a Light Up model and enjoy it without all the work.

Dirty Slots,
if the item you are talking about is in the circle in the photo below, it is the adjustment for the handle return buffer pump and the screw controls the air that escapes thru the valve which controls the speed at which the handle returns to prevent back slap of the handle!
The nut just locks it at the setting selected!
You can easily place a bulb behind the award, the marque and below the reel window using a door bell transformer for your 6-8 volt DC power for the bayonet bulbs!
Not original power source but for looks it can be done!
Bona Fortuna!
