Adjusting the Horsehead Bonus letters

Postby capt7310 » Sun Feb 23, 2020 8:16 am

Have a bonus horsehead and the timing is all off. I can stop the reel on a B and it comes up, then the next spin without stopping the reels the O may pop up on a cherry, and so on. I can just let the reels spin freely and they will stop on 3 different symbols and the bonus will drop 18 while no letters are showing. Tried to watch the CoinOp video on the HorseHead but wasn't clear but I do see the notch and did tried to line it up and still no good. The machine will payout fine on any of the symbols on the award plate, just the bonus is all out of whack and all the part mechs for the bonus are there nothing missing.

Tried to adjust but every spin the letters automatically come up. And after the 5th spin it drops 18 automatically. I found what I think is a a cheat stop on the first reel.

Refer to my post of Feb 23, 2017. There is reference to literature available on line that might assist you in the calibration.

That's in this thread: http://www.coinopcollectorforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=5574? At first it wasn't immediately obvious how to hop directly to the post to which you referred from the date.

I replaced the spring on the rear of the BONUS mech and the letters snap up fine and the pay slides now payout out the 18 when you hit BONUS as where before when the letters did not snap up the slides did not engage. The problem is now the first 3 letters pop up fine B O N when I stop the clock to position the U, the notch on the BONUS disk it not line up and when I line up the notch it's back on the N. Again when I reset the letters and and align the notch to the B it lines up fine an O-N line up perfect ,but the U does not line up, I will move the first reel to the notch is shown and it's back on N. So the letters U and S are off.

C'mon where's my experts. So I messed with it for hours and read and watch Dave's video. Now I get B-O-N-U that comes up prefect but when I line up the S not even close on the notch, keeps lining up to the U. I did take out my other BONUS mech and went through all the letter sequences and everything matched up but the S on my other mech. I'm at a loss hope there's one of 30yr plus guy that can help.

Try to shorten that spring you replaced. About 2 coils. Or switch the spring with your other machine and see if that does anything.

I think the problem is solved. The roller bearing the rolls over the star shape disc wasn't going all the way over. I had to give the roller bearing a little nudge and the notch lined right up. I ran it several times and that was the problem. I now have to figure how to make the bearing complete the motion over the star disc because it only happens on the S. Thanks to my good friend Wes in Montana.
