Little Duke lever

I have an original Jennings Little Duke one cent. There is a short pencil sized lever on the front outside, just to the right of the jackpot. I pushed it up and the Jackpot dumped. It makes no sense. Can you give me info on this lever?

If the jackpot has emptied and coins are still stuck in the jackpot it can be moved to help empty the remaining coins. When the mechanism is in the cabinet the jackpot release arm and catch would be in their proper configuration. For repair help there is a comprehensive guide written by Rick Akers that is available.
