I think it's a wartime slot put together out of old parts by Mills. The paint looks like their glitter yellow which was commonly used then. And if they were putting together stuff in the 1940's it would make total sense to put in a more up to date 1-cherry pay mechanism. And while those casting tabs would normally be used, I've heard of cases where they weren't -- maybe with the war saving a couple bolts made sense after all they did join the front casting to the cabinet from the back as well.

Thanks for all the great information everyone! If nothing else it was great to find out more info on a unit that's been in my parents house for over 50 years. Doesn't make it any easier to try and determine value but it's been a fun little project for me. I did find a shop in my area that gave me a ballpark but want to get a few verifications before finalizing any deal.

Thanks again!

Personally I would not restore it as I believe it to be original Mills pretty much as it left the factory. Tuning the mech would make sense, but I wouldn't mess up the original reel strips or anything.

Atac it appears you were correct...I have found the serial number stamped to the casting, and it does indeed match the tag that's on the inside of the cabinet as well. See pictures attached. Is there a way to determine from Mills when this machine was made now that the Serial number has been verified?

Does have a membership give you more information on the coinopregistry site? I don't see how to determine this machine was from 1937 on the site. Thanks!

On some machines the inside paper revealed a date of manufacture. These show up randomly on the list of serials. If your serial number is close you can get an approximate date. Not much info has been unearthed from Mills factory paperwork although you can get release dates and other information from their ads in issues of Automatic Age Magazine on a different website. (Google the magazine title and the Arcade Museum site will pop up)

Anyone care to guess what the value of this machine is if I were to sell it?

Always a challenging question to estimate a price. I am in Ohio and a very nice dime War Eagle just sold for $1400 ( dime denomination hurts the value). Based on observed condition of yours, I would think an asking price of $1000 and you would probably expect to take a little less.
