Postage Vending Machine

Postby Tommo » Sun Nov 10, 2024 8:07 am

Hi
Just wanted to show my recent purchase ( awaiting delivery)
It’s a British Stamp vending machine, made by the Halls Telephone Accessories Ltd, base in London.
I only know what the auction description says about - it has come from The Charlestown Shipwreck Museum in England, which has closed down.
It vends 1/2p and 1p stamps.
It does not have any keys
If anyone knows anymore details about it I would be grateful
Regards
Kevin

Hello Kevin
I live in North London. The Hall Telephone company were not to far away from me. They also manufatured the beloved A/B coin boxes for the red K6 telephone boxes. I belive that the company ceased in the 1980's.

The pre decimal stamp mechanisms are most sought after now and quite scarce. I have a 1/2 d mechanism on the side of my Queen Victoria pillar box.

Your internal box has the embossed coinage sign so quite early. This was then replaced with a small enamel sign.

There is a small collectors book by Shire, album 316. "Automatic Vending Machines" Colin Emmins. This has an image of a wall mounted stamp mechanisms.
Hope this helps, best, Laurence

Good afternoon Laurence
Thank you for the information, the stamp vendors open a new avenue for my interests.
I am hoping in the near future to furnish out a spare bed room and fill it with one arm bandits, trade stimulators and other curios.
I am in the collecting mode at the moment, most of my machines are in as was state and do require work.
Thank you again, I found the book you mentioned on eBay and have sent for a copy.
Regards
Kevin
