POINT OF VIEW 1981

RAN ACROSS THIS POINT OF VIEW FROM 1981 THAT SEEMS TO BE RELEVANT EVEN MORE SO TODAY. I WAS NOT GOING TO POST IT AS I DID NOT WANT ANY WHINING AND COMPLAINING BUT SEEN A POST TODAY ABOUT ANOTHER INCIDENT. IT GOES AS FOLLOWS
IF YOU WERE TO ASK ME MY PET PEEVE YOU'D PROBABLY GET A LECTURE ON THE EVILS OF PRESENTING FICTION AS FACT OR THE ACT OF PRETENDING TO KNOW SOMETHING WHEN YOU DON'T. HISTORY IS HISTORY AND IF YOU WANT TO WRITE ABOUT IT OR DISCUSS IT RESEARCH IT. IT ISN'T EASY, LORD KNOWS, BUT THATS THE NECESSARY PRICE OF ADMISSION IF YOUR PLANNING TO PUT PEN TO PAPER OR OPEN YOUR MOUTH. I'VE MAD HISTORICAL MISTAKES -- BIG ONES AT TIMES -- BUT I'M JUST AS EAGERTO FIND THE TRUE FACTS AND THEN STRAIGHTEN THEM OUT LET-THE-CHIPS-FALL-WHERE-THEY-MAYAS YOU ARE TO READ THE REAL GOODS. OTHER SERIOUS COIN MACHINE PEOPLE - SLOT,COUNTER GAME, ARCADE AND PINBALL -- FEEL THE SAME WAY.

TO MY KNOWLEDGE THERE IS NO FIELD OF HISTORY OR COLLECTIBLES THAT HAS MORE BALONEY IN PRINT OR BY WORD OF MOUTH THAN THAT OF SLOT MACHINES. AND IT STILL GOES ON!!! IN CERTAIN AREAS THE BULL DRIPS LIKE HONEY FROM THE PENS AND MOUTHS OF CERTAIN SAVANTS. YOU CAN EXCUSE ERRORS OF FACT OR JUDGEMENT IN THE EARLY DAYS OF ANY ENDEAVOR ON THE BASIS OF LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. BUT WERE IN 2021 AND SLOT COLLECTING AND HISTORY GATHERING HAS BEEN HOT FOR OVER A HALF CENTURY NOW. THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR POURING OUT PAP IN A DAY WHEN ALMOST ALL COLLECTORS KNOW FAR MORE ABOUT THEIR MACHINES THAN ANYONE IN THE COUNTRY DID AT THE START OF THE 1970'S. SO MUCH FOR THAT EXCEPT! WATCH WHAT YOU READ OR LISTEN TO AND MAKE YOUR OWN JUDGEMENTS ABOUT VIABILITY, TRUTH AND THE APPARENT RESEARCH BEHIND A SENTENCE. RICHARD M. BUESCHEL 1981. I DECIDED TO POST THIS DUE TO THE RISING ISSUES OF MISREPRESENTATION BY SOME HUSTLERS AND OR SCAMMERS AND THOSE TRYING TO MAKE A KILLING ON THE BACKS OF NEWBIES WHO PAY TWO TO THREE TIMES RETAIL FOR SOME MACHINES. I SEE MORE POSTS EVERY DAY TO THIS EFFECT. 50 YRS LATER. MECHANIC 2021

J.S.
Just a side note My Friend since we spoke on the phone a couple days ago!
The Bally 873 we spoke about is fixed, really made me think on that one!
Tell you about it next time you call, how's your Bally doing?
On your statement being another Old Timer from the start of this "HOBBY", which it is, for the enjoyment and fun of collecting and restoring pieces of history I agree with you!
Take Care Amigo!

This makes me think of ALL the eBay sellers offering the "GENUINE ORIGINAL GOLDEN NUGGET SLOT MACHINE." I see the same thing with antique candlestick and wooden wall telephones. Many are OBVIOUS fakes. But I guess these sellers get off as "experts" just because they're high volume, like the one that called me the "arm chair expert."
