5 Jennings Standard Chiefs for $275,000

Postby Dave » Mon Nov 23, 2020 10:40 pm

I was offered 5 Jennings Standard Chief Consoles for $275,000.

That is a wee bit more than I am willing to pay.

There is some very interesting information about these machines at http://casinoantiques.com

The seller states he has two appraisals that have them valued at around $300,000.00 I asked to see the appraisals multiple times but they were never made available.

Just wondering if anyone else was offered these machines as well.

Seems an odd paragraph seeing these were never from the 20’s
Just saying......

This collection is offered as one entity to that unique buyer that wants an authentic Gatsby Era game room reminicent to the Roaring Twenties when twisting to the "Charleston" was the popular dance of the day.

The whole thing is odd.

Here is another interesting quote

Affidavit of provenance, two appraisals and research books are available to buyer

Recent appraisal and research books on this collection were done by Florida State Historian, Roland Castro.

Mr. Castro was a celebrity guest appraiser on the Antiques Roadshow. He is a graduate of the University of Miami and has traveled all over the world seeking knowledge and history on all exclusive art forms.

When I googled Roland Castro I could find nothing. If he really did recently appraise them close to $300,000 well I am not too impressed. The web site indicates they have two appraisals.

When I asked for proof the the provenance the seller came up with nothing.

These machines have been up for sale before.....the price asked is absolutely ridiculous!!! The Real price should be about $15 to $20,000 for ALL of them!.......these machines are worth about $3,000 to $4,000 each, with the possible exception of the Dollar being worth up to $6,000.........I just had a chance to buy a Dollar Jennings SUN Chief light up in the Console (worth Way more than a Standard Chief) for under $5,000 and I passed on it.......offer them $15,000 for ALL of them and maybe they will come back down to Earth!

The set of 5 Jennings slots were listed on eBay by <antiquecoinslotmachines.com> with a "buy it now" of $129,500. Also mentioned that they were selling a Mills Dewey Chicago Triplet slot machine also from the mayor's estate along with the gambling tables. Similar wording and information. Perhaps the people at the aforementioned website can clarify the information?

Do you remember when it was listed on ebay? I searched for the seller antiquecoinslotmachines.com and nothing came up.

Good luck on getting any reliable information from the seller.

FYI, the seller has a facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Indian-Chief-One-Arm-Bandits-909376722484025/?ref=page_internal

I guess here are some reasons these machines are sooooooo valuable.

1. There is original coinage in the Jack Pot glass viewing panel in the front of each machine with old coins mixed in with new. I've owned these slots almost 4 decades and no one has ever hit the Jack Pot, therefore confirming "the house always wins!" All machines are working and in pristine original condition and have never been restored. This set of 5 is a very rare find.

2. On a visit to the Regional Headquarter of the Cherokee Nation in February of 2012, in Tahlequah, OK, I had a personal visit with Deputy Principal Chief of The Cherokee Nation, Chief Joe Crittenden. He shared a very interesting story that I would like to pass on to you. He said the “Set of Five” Indian Chief’s, represented the 5 Peaceful Tribes of the Native Americans. (*read above) Two famous people with heritage connections to the Cherokee Nation are Cher and Wayne Newton.

Regarding the "original" coinage. If you look at the $.50 and $1.00 machines you will see JFK halves and EIK dollars. Oh, and there are no coins in the $.50 escalator.

The seller kept telling me the machines are so valuable because of the original coinage in them.

The eBay auction had no date (google: O.D. Jennings set 5 Indian Chief slot machines/images) although it may have been earlier this year or late last year. The actual auction will not pop up because it is over 90 days. They started the set at $129,500 and relisted 5 or 6 times down to an eventual bargain basement price of $125,000. The Mills Dewey Chicago Triple slot was also listed on eBay but no additional information was available. 1stbids lists it "sold" at somewhere under the asking price of $425,000. (M.S. Rau Antiques, 2017)

It is interesting that you mention Rat Antiques because the seller kept bragging that Rau Antiques had a Mills Triple for sale for $425,000. My reply was, so what, apples to oranges. The seller implied that if the triple was worth that much then the 5 Jennings were easily worth the asking price. Like, WTF???
