Polk vs Sanchez

Postby fast400 » Sun Dec 27, 2020 10:55 am

I'm new hear, and it's great to find so much history and information! Thank you to the owners of this site.
I've been offered a 'real polk' recently. It's a Miner, but he doesn't look like many of the other Polk pictures I've been studying, especially the pants and hands. Is this possibly a Sanchez?

Is the quartz crystal in the background maybe for sale too? Very interested if it is.

This is definitely NOT a Polk. It is a Miner, missing the Gold Pan, that’s why the left hand is in that position. Looks like a Harris (Royal Bell) to me.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply. First things I noted was the missing nugget or cup in the R hand, and the missing pan. The L hand on the polk miner is more refined from the grainy pictures I found.

I'll ask when I go to see the 'Bill Harris' miner.

I purchased this Union Solider a few weeks ago at an estate sale and thought the same, Sanchez or Polk and found out it is a Bill Harris. Did some research and that is one of his machines he designed. Hope it helps, there is a brochure on line you could download

One other thing. If you are looking for a nice Knock Off at a fair price, there is one on eBay right now. It ends in an hour so you don’t have a lot of time. Back in the 1980’s Jim Schafer made some Bandits, which were an exact copy of an Original Polk. That is what is on eBay now. Current bid about $4,000 I think that is a fair price for what I consider the Best Knock Off.

Actually the one that is on Ebay isn't a Jim Schafer either...looks identical to the Schafer repro's. I was sure it was, so I asked the seller for a few additional pics, and there was no 'branded' numbers under the head...just a 24 with a grease pencil. So it seems it's a knock off of the knock off...hahaha.

I’m quite Confident that the one on eBay is a Jim Schafer. Remember, the seller is trying to pas it off as an Original. Therefore, he’s not going to state any conflicting information. If I was betting, I would state 99.99% it’s a Schafer. Do what you want with that information.

I thought that Jim Schafer branded every one with the number, and a 'Frank Polk' signature. This is all there is on this one.
