Looks like a Pace or Ace to me?

Postby shortrackskater » Fri Sep 03, 2021 10:01 am

I'd never pay this much for it (Good LA Slots in Los Angeles who had never once answer my e mails), but isn't this a Pace/Ace machine? I never understood the conglomeration of different names assigned to machines that appear to all be made by the same company but I never have seen this style called a Mills or "Baldecci."

Test and photos from listing since ad will eventually go away:

...Sure looks like a Pace to me. No idea where some sellers source their "information" about what they're selling. #-o

I see a Pace machine. But, it kind of looks like Mills reel strips....

Thanks Ed! :)
That's what I thought! I don't mean to just bag on companies but I will when they advertise for something it's clearly not.
And, funny - the ad is gone.
This is why it's important to copy the text and photos.

Baldecchi Manufacturing in Reno Nevada was the company that made the open front metal cabinet for the casinos to make use of the older mechanical slot machines so as to place them closer together and eliminate the need for the slot mechanics to spin the cabinets around to perform service on the inner mechanisms!
This allowed for a smaller foot print being required so the casinos could have more slot machines on the casino floor!
The metal cabinet also prevented "Cross Roaders" of the day, slot cheats from drilling holes in the cabinet to use a bicycle spoke to hold and control the reels!
Baldecchi also made the coin entries for these open front slot machines copying Pace somewhat however the mechanisms used were Mills Bell-O-Matic models when Mills was operating in Nevada based in Reno!
As the slot machines were placed on a counter or cabinet in rows they required a coin bowl be placed within the cabinet for payouts which exited the metal cabinet under it which Baldecchi also made so for home usage the wooden base is needed to house the coin bowl!

Thanks for the history on these machines, Monti!!

I remember these machines at the El Cortez Hotel in downtown Las Vegas.

Thanks Monti! I had a feeling you'd show up. :)
So what exactly is this machine? I had one just like it but the only name I saw in it was Ace. Never say Mills or Baldecchi.

Monti,

Thanks for the education on this machine. I guess that would explain the appearance of the Mills strips and the "21-Bell" theme.

Well other than breathing smoke everyday, I'm still around, this dang Dixie Fire has been threatening the heck out of us!
We were evacuated once and I still haven't unpacked yet!
I doubt you would see the name Baldecchi anywhere as only the cast aluminum pieces would be marked, like the payout bowls or the coin head pieces or possibly hidden in the recesses of the inside of the metal cabinet!
Ace & Space were companies that really didn't last long after they bought out Pace!
