mills side vender

Postby jsin » Sat Jul 22, 2017 6:51 am

Hello,

Came across this eBay listing. Close to $ 500. Then started wondering what is the typical price range for a Mills side vendor unrestored / restored? ( Assuming it is in working order and has all parts). Are side vendors scarce in general comparable to the actual Machines out there? Are there any books that discuss side vendors?

Not bidding on this item just thoughts that came to my newbie mind when I saw it.

Thanks

The Mills Sword Vender that is shown, is an original, and appears to have all parts. It is a bit rough, with some
corrosion on the aluminum, and rust on the metal. That large bent part is not original, and looks like someone
was using it as a weight on top of the mint rolls, which is unnecessary, and takes up the space of 2 or 3 rolls.
The price is currently at the high point for it's condition, as it needs a complete restoration. It is also one of the
more common, and easy-to-find venders, and one that has also been reproduced for many years. This original,
is the way to find them, because some restored examples are hard to tell from a nicely finished repro.

My thoughts as well. I thought 500 was kind of high, but this sold for just over $ 800. Someone has some deep pockets.

bare in mind, it take more than ONE person to drive the price up on e-bay. so at least 2 people fighting over it , may have been more.

Aw! People don't do that, do they? That would be dishonest! [-X
For what this one went for, in it's very poor condition, I should be able to sell my nice originals
for at least $1,200 plus. #-o

At this phase of the game, I wouldn't take $850, and a truck-load of Wonka Bars.
Besides, I have lost my taste for them anyhow. :(
