Sega diamond 4 star slot.

Postby JHSS-1944 » Tue Feb 21, 2017 1:41 am

Photos of my latest find. I know it's a Sega , be nice.
Sega diamond 4 star slot machine. bought it locally, only $400.00. very excellent condition inside & out.
story line is , this machine was in an officer's club at an A.F.B. in Japan. and someone there took it home in the 1960's. played very little all in all. then it stopped working years ago. sold to another guy ,who broke off the key in the back door lock. sat for over a year in his garage. now I got it. took me 15 to 20 minutes to figure out why it wasn't working, then a minute or two to fix.
the style is nice , condition was very important, 4 reels was very nice. plays on U.S. nickles = a big plus , And it's lighting system is still there & fully working. Marque for the top is missing but, working on that.
no inspection tag ,so no date.
thank you for looking.

Jeff, that's a killer slot! Congratulations!
Love the styling -- the 'diamond star' chrome plate at the base looks like it
came off a '57 Dodge. And four reels -- totally cool.
How come we don't get deals like that here in northwest Ohio?!

You just have to look all the time. only 3 of my machines were shipped to me, Rest were all " local " buys. e-ban is o.k. at times, most were on C.L. or OFFER UP.
Seems around here, only 1 big collector (a forum member), me, Richard in Tempe, a few pretend dealers (flippers), that's about it.
If I bought every Mills High top I've seen in the past 2 years locally , I'd have 60 + machines easy. most of those were over priced & never sold. they see e-bay prices of $3,000.00 , so price their's at $2,000.00 = don't sell.
right now a skyscraper for sale at $1,300.00, high top from the Fremont casino $875.00, Jennings sun chief light up at $3,200.00, vest pocket at $500.00, was a few other high tops around $1,200.00 all on C.L. and no takers. every once in awhile a decent machine at give away prices pops up.
even a nice one at a high price ,can be talked down a little. your selling it was a reason..... never hurts to ask , they can just say no. Specially if THEY under stand "YOU" know what you're looking at, and ask real questions about it.

and thank you on you good comments on this machine!

Good advice and well taken! I guess it pays to be patient, as well. I have to tell you -- I've learned more about slot machines on this forum in the last three months than I have reading the supposedly definitive books out on the subject!
As I probably mentioned I'm new to this hobby, but it bears much resemblance to the 'classic car' cult, with which I have a substantially deeper association. Mass exposure threatens to destroy the craze. Folks watch the Mecum auction and figure that Aunt Jeanette's rusted out '66 Ford has GOT to be worth at least $20,000. And I suppose it comes down to supply and demand: there are only so many Castle Fronts and Sun Chiefs to go around, and that drives up the price. Besides, they are among the 'desirable' machines (like the Mustangs, Camaros, and '57 Chevys of the car world). Me, I tend to gravitate to the more unusual. Aristocrats and Segas even! I would rather have a well-used, casino-handled Mills HiTop revamp from an iconic Reno nightclub than a perfectly restored (or completely original) War Eagle.
And, bottom line, the reason we collect. I can't put a price tag on the feeling a sunset cruise on the flat Ohio country roads in my '53 Plymouth gives me. Slots have the same effect on me. A deep connection to the past, that 'time machine' aura. What is the joy in owning a museum piece? Cars only come to life when they're driven, and slots can only cast their true spell when they're played.
Alas, I ramble. Anyway, Jeff, I will close by mentioning that I totally have the 'hots' for your Sega Diamond 4 Star. Should you be inclined to part with it, kindly keep me in mind!
Thanks, Nelson

Hi Jeff,
I truly believe I am the greatest authority on Sega slot machines, I knew the founder of Sega Marty Bromley as a personal friend for more than 40 years, the first brand new slot machine I bought was a Sega Diamond Star in 1961 I paid 310.00 British pounds, I installed it in a club in Great Yarmouth, U.K in those days Marty lived in London, over the years I have spent many a time socially in his company in places all over the World. After Marty died, I wanted to write his autobiography but after getting permission from his daughter Lauran, I decided to write a fictional story based on his life, and what a life it was, he was a true James Bond character, I am hoping that one day my book will be made into a motion picture, it is called The Lone American, and should be ready to be published later this year.

What you have with your four reel Diamond Star looks totally original, the only other model that was painted in the color green was the Sega Double-Pay Star, thart was made for the U.K market, see the attached flyer of the Double-Pay Star and also your model. great machine, Sega models are so under valued by collectors, when Service Games (Nevada) Inc, was the Mills-Bell-O-Matic distributor in Nevada in 1958 they made many improvements to Mills machines to stop them from being cheated, all of these are in the Service Games (Nevada) Inc' catalog.

Enjoy your great find.

Thank you Nelson & Freddy !
the marque is missing but , will have one made for it , as it's shown in the sales flyer.
was very thrilled to see the lighting system was still in it And it was still working. original 1060's era light bulbs still in it.
Nelson , I kinda like the odd balls also... to some degree.
there's a Sega "progressive" for sale in Texas for $700.00 really nice looking but jammed up.
locally is an Mills "M" head, but I can't get any real info. from the seller ( drugs are bad, o.k. ).
actually need another lighting system like this, for another machine I own.

Freddy , any good source of information on Sega on the internet ,that you know of ?
a decent Correct time line of the company would be nice, with correct facts.
thank you again gents !

Jeff:
It will not be an easy task to make a marquee for your Sega. They are a one-piece heavy cast box.
If you are patient, I am sure that I have an original in the warehouse, but finding it is another chore.
I also have an extra Sega case, (that I will sell some day), but I don't think the marquee is on that
machine. Will let you know, if and when I locate it. But you will have to make the plastic for it.

Jeff,
Look on the British Ebay, I am sure you will find a top box, the same one fits all of the models, there was a vast amount of Sega machines sold in the U.K more than in America, I have seen these for sale from time to time, like bill says you can copy the plastic window easily, regarding finding information on the Internet, only Sega retro is on there, but I would not hold out much truth in it, I knew every one of the directors of the company personally because I was in the same business at that time, Dick Stewart is the only one left alive, and he is hanging on to life in his villa in the South of France. Marty Bromley was a man who stayed in the shadows and made all of his assistants millionaires, he operated 16.000 slot machines on the U.S Military bases all over the World, but always through front men.

Sega Enterprises Ltd was formed in 1952 in Japan, everything was controlled through his main holding company Club Speciality Inc, based in Panama.

Jeff:
Not sure when I will get to it, but rest assured, I will not stab you in the back with price. As Freddy mentioned,
you can do a search on the UK network, but take into consideration the 'cross-the-pond' shipping.
