No; first Chief was the Model K, One Star Chief; c. Sept 1935.
Photo is a 1937 Chief.

Hi,
Thank you for getting back... I have the same machine, I just got it, I wasn't sure when it was made... 1937 that's interesting, was there an advertisement for this machine? Was it any good? Please let me know... Thank you.

Hi,
What I just found out about this Chief is very interesting... Very interesting...Nicknamed a WW2 Chief, at the begging of WW2 Jennings had to fill orders for slot machines however they were not allowed to make new machines because of the war... The Jennings factory was converted for the war effort however they found a loophole in the law, they went to the warehouse and assembled new machines using spare parts off the shelf... Thats why the lower front casting is from 1935 and the top casting is from around 1937 and they don't match like the one star or four star chiefs. This is still original from the factory and rarer... Really interesting I thought. That was the story I was told...

Who told you this story?
Although such measures may have occurred during the war, that folklore does not apply to the 1937 Chief and it is not properly nicknamed a WW2 Chief.
The 1937 Chief pictured above was a planned production model.
Wartime restrictions did not go into effect until several years after this model was introduced.
In the late 30s, Jennings had a practice of model proliferation, some with short production runs, others with long runs.
In fact, they had a quite diverse line of models right up to 1941.

What makes you think the upper and lower castings "don't match"?
Just looking at the photo, they seem to fit together just fine.
