Jennings Silver Chief information

Hello,
I’m looking at purchasing my first slot machine Jennings Silver Chief 25¢ slot machine. I enjoy restoring vintage Pinball games, Eco air meters and Coke machines.
Here is a photo of one I want to purchase. When you insert a coin and pull the handle All three reels spin nicely and then stop in order. The machine does not pay out And you can see in the picture below that there is a spring that appears to be overstretch. Could that be the issue? I’m really interested in learning all I can about this machine and helping preserve some of these old girls. Any information would be much appreciated. Is it possible to locate the correct spring?

"Mechanic" in this forum might have the springs you need. To learn more about how to fix/repair/restore the mechanisms on this slot, you can also buy repair books, such as the "Owner's Pictorial Guide for the Care and Understanding of the Jennings Bell Slot Machine" by Geddes and Mead. It describes all of the slot's functions, how to disassemble, clean and reassemble the machine.

Ok, Im not sure what spring I need. My first slot. So I was hoping for some help to identify the correct one by the pic in my post. thanks for the info

Just replace them all. They’re cheap and you’ll have a new base to start from. As was said, Thunder55 on eBay will have them and he’s great to work with. The payout slide springs are the hardest to work with. Just keep the slides in the correct order and no oil or grease

Yes,I see Thunder55 has a spring set available for like 100 bucks is that the one you're referring to? I got the Machine to my house today And manually loaded about $15 in quarters after using the pull to load tab in the back and then I cycled another $15 through After pushing the tab back in until I hit a paying combination and it did not payout. All the old grease and oil Seems to have degraded over time and become extremely sticky. I could use some advice on the process of how to go about disassembly and cleaning in hopes of avoiding rookie mistakes screwing this thing up which looks like that would be easy to do. I'm intimidated at this point but still feel confident I can do this. Thanks again for your help.

Take it apart clean with mineral sprits and put back together and use 3 in one to oil the pivots and gears.
